Nothing by itself is a solution for anything, folks; however combined with other common sense steps, one can make a difference...., you don't mention exercise at all in this article, nor do you mention the much ignored nicotinic acid for cholesterol. Shame..., shame.
Even tho mthr has a good diet in the AL, I asked doc to prescribe mthr her favorite horse pill multivitamin just so she would take all her pills. If she thinks they are vitamins, she's fine, if she thinks they are drugs, no compliance. It's worth the cents a day to get her compliance. And a geriatric neurologist in the area is prescribing melatonin for sundowning, so that's just one more vitamin in the mix. When she asks what she's taking, we honestly say, vitamins for your mind and body! She's thrilled.
Multivitamins is not a waste of money...but only one must see to it that the multivitamains he or she is taking if really proven and tested already for More than 20 years and it has meet the 18 criteria of what a multivitaimins must be to the body. Why I have said this because before i had my asthma and high blood pressure...since i take my multivitamins for these three years now...i could say goodbye to my nebules and inhalers for asthma and goodbye also to my losartan...so therefore i have saved a lot money because of my multivitamins.
I agree to usmpss. Medicines have many side effects. If a patient has only one ailment...sooner or later it will be teo or more ...just like what had happened to my father...whos ailment became complicated....my father died.
Doctors have changed, they have become dangerous. How many people in the USA get 92 nutrients EVERY SINGLE DAY. ANSWER: ZERO. Doctors are drug pushers, that's where they make a lot of their money. Any other profession would go to jail for taking kickbacks. Its not surprising they would give you a drug over a supplement.
Elderly people do not eat enough food to get all their vitamins. Mom gets a multiple, a D3, co-q-10, b complex. Sometimes she only eats breakfast. I try to give her water and Boost Hi-Protein to compensate. She may or may not eat a lean cuisine turkey dinner at noon. She has dementia, but she is 94 and still getting around, no medicine. Her heart isn't so good, but then being 94. She sleeps a lot, no problem with that. So I will let the docs have their opinion and I have mine.
I am 78 years old and NOW I take NO DRUGS! However, I have been taking lots of vitamins since I was 23 years old. I look about 55 and have incredible energy. I took Premarin & Progesterone for 17 yrs. precribed by my doctor & got breast cancer as a result. The manufacturer, knew Premarin would cause cancer. Progesterone raised the chances 400%!!! Please watch a documentary called "The Beautiful Truth" on Netflix. The powerful pharmaceutical manufacturers have a huge influence of doctors prescribing drugs all in the name of profit. I take drugs ONLY WHEN NECESSARY; not to line the pockets of investors & politicians! THINK AMERICANS!!! Stop believing everything you see & hear about drugs & eat quality foods, research GMO's & stay away from them, exercise your brain & your body, stay involved socially and be positive. All drugs have side effects sometimes requiring more drugs so use them as little as possible!!!! Good luck!
