The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. APFM does not (and may not) require or even ask consumers seeking senior housing or care services in Washington State to sign waivers of liability for losses of personal property or injury or to sign waivers of any rights established under law.I agree that: A.I authorize A Place For Mom ("APFM") to collect certain personal and contact detail information, as well as relevant health care information about me or from me about the senior family member or relative I am assisting ("Senior Living Care Information"). It's getting the doctors to respect ones wishes that scares me, They don't!! Our family has experienced a life cut short without a HCP and my Mom had to make the decision to pull the plug as the saying goes. She has been very adamant about everyone having a HCP and discussing contents/wishes. Unfortunately doctors, ER rooms are not abiding by her decisions, now in final stage of dementia. I do not believe the Government needs to be involved, nor certain pay doctors or patients to do the damn paper work. It's your life, if you choose not to make the decisions, someone will make it for you and it may not be want you want. Certainly with the financial issues our country has now we'll be voting
I don't see anything wrong with these proposals.The question is why do you? Are we so afraid of old age and death that we can no longer face the inevitable? If the government wants to give me a small stipend for planning then I'll take it. It has to be done eventually so why not plan ahead? Why wait until you have to guess what your loved one wanted or do it on the fly under stress? By the way..the world is overpopulated.The "elderly" last forever (or haven't you read most of the comments in here) and yes, the governments of the world want us to just die before we need round the clock care. Is that unrealistic? It's what most of us are saying every day in Aging Care; "when will it end". So much outrage though few families of the elderly want to provide in home care.If they do they want to get paid. I see little difference between these politicians and the rest of us.
Often decisions in the hospital are dictated by children of the patients who want everything possible done to save the patient's life (despite the fact that they aren't the one's directly responsible for the cost) or by the doctor who will be paid for the procedures regardless of the efficacy or expressed desire of the patient to refrain fro such procedures.
Baloney! That is a typical LIBTARD artument. It is part of the liberal agenda to take over and control as much of your life as possible expanding the nanny state and burdening society even further! Any way possible to get into our pockets and minds is the general concept. For example, what happened to parenting classes in high school? Why not introduce these concepts to HS seniors?
I currently work in healthcare and see firsthand how the elderly often do not have these kinds of conversations with their families or doctors, and when serious and even terminal issues come up (End Stage diseases such as Cancer, Parkinson's, COPD, etc.), no one knows what to do. Everyone NEEDS to have these kinds of serious discussions, and I think the title of this article is unfortunate, as it does not just talk about death, but planning for your future at the end-of-life---which we ALL will face eventually.
Also, the bills that have been introduced are bi-partisan; this is not a liberal or conservative issue but an American issue.

When the hell is the government getting out of our lives (and taking a chuck of our money in the process)? We are truly moving more and more toward a nanny state and I for one do not like it. What has happened to individual responsibility? Each day sounds more like showing up for high school and being mandated to complete more and more forms to restrict our individual freedoms. Doctors and Patients Getting Paid to Plan for Death
Are we so afraid of old age and death that we can no longer face the inevitable?
If the government wants to give me a small stipend for planning then I'll take it. It has to be done eventually so why not plan ahead? Why wait until you have to guess what your loved one wanted or do it on the fly under stress?
