My mother and dad have been in this assisted living facility for a 2 years. I had planned on moving them to a more skilled facility when my mother took a severe turn for the worse. She has been in and out of the hospital for the last 3 months. She is now in a hospice program at the AL facility. The hospice nurses suggest 24/7 nursing care. When I contacted some of the Home Health Care facilities on their list - they said they do physical and occupation therapy and I should check
on companion care. Companion care says they don't do direct patient care.
Are there any other options besides moving her to a skilled nursing facility?

Ask the hospice people if they mean 24/7 nursing care or if a companion, maybe a CNA would be sufficient. Many home care agencies employ CNA's. What mom needs no doubt has been evaluated by hospice. Ask them if a CNA would be enough or what level of nursing care is needed. Having an agency send in 24/7 RN would be very expensive, even a CNA, a team of peobably three of them would run in the area of 12K a month. A skilled nursing facility would be much more practical.

As we are shopping for memory care and assisted living we are trying to find a place that offers a continuum of care from assisted and memory to skilled nursing. With two octogenarians, one or the other is likely to need nursing home care. And it would be very difficult for them to see each other if separate facilities are necessary.

Go up to the Search Site box and enter "Jacksonville FL" and lots of info should pop up. Doesn't the AL have LPN's on 24/7? Any care has to come with written orders from the Hospice MD. Suggestions are not the same as written orders.
