I think it is when you lean your back against the wall and squat. Like you are in a sitting position, but leaning against the wall for support (no chair).

I agree - it is when you stand with your back straight against a wall and pretend to sit down but don't go too far down.

usualy when i sweep its my arm thats doing all the work lol no leaning along the wall i have no wall to lean on! its all loaded with chairs curio tv house plants . .

How about an exercise for getting out of bed in the morning when you only had 2 hours of sleep?

Been there done that. Sleep deprivation is one of the most devastating condition I know. Makes you irritable, achy, depressed, etc. I am a direct caregiver and have had those nights. I can't tell you what to do because I don't know what your schedule is like but I try to nap during the day as much as possible. I try not to get too irritated when up most of the night but sometimes I do loose my temper and become short with my Mom. THen the guilt comes in. Really, try to get rest during the day.

Guess I've been lucky & fortunate having my mom in assisted living until now, but there have been times that she was in hosp or care center(rehab)& she expected me to be there staying in her apt, as I live 45 miles from her & being 82(good health, thus far, but do have hip replacements)staying in her apt, able to visit her several times a day,( usually 3 X's),now she is in nursing home & I'm getting her apt ready to vacate it by the end of the month, what a job & of course haven't told her that yet, advised to tell her she will be evaluated come spring, but she will never be able to go back there, hate not being able to tell her that......my 2 brothers live close by but in poor health, so can't do much to help. Hoping she will adjust to the nursing home.

i have to try and run after 2 young kids...my knees are slightly warped from having to work to and from work when I was much younger lady...its a work out to lift my husband from bed to power chair and then from power chair to toilet then toilet to the tub...he is paralyzed on his left side from a stroke besides seizures so i am pretty busy...rarely do i get a day say screw it all...besides running errands etc ...i am always doing something just rarely for me ...besides losing a loved one and dealing with my current situation... I am just glad I can keep the roof over are heads and still pay the utilities but have to cut some spending here soon...

well if you have any arthritis don't squat too far down, don't make too big of lunges, and don't skip steps on the stairs......be careful to protect what you have. I would imagine it would be hard for a 24/7 caregiver to have time to do much exercises if they are busy with the patient. and when they have time, they are resting. now this would be good if you are only a temp caregiver where you have plenty of time after your caregiving activities are done for the day.

Just had a comment for Jeannine re telling your mom that she can't go home: when the times comes, I would suggest having your brothers there, if at all possible to give support. If they can't make it, perhaps the doctor or social worker can be there with you. They can give their input (medical reasons, functional reasons etc.). I had a similar situation with my mother after a stroke & the NH staff were very helpful. After all, they have a lot of experience with this. Good luck & you are doing an awesome thing taking care of your mom!

my mother went thru caregiving with my dad and half the time she was in tears. finally my father is in a nursing home getting the proper care and my mother (diabetic) can finally get her sugars under control and not be stressed with trying to figure out how she could help my dad without burning herself out.

Now if they had said turn caregiving into a workout I would have been interested. Now lets see. Some idea
Mastering the snatch - Clean thoroughly after bowel movement and if urine has a malodour call a physician especially if there are signs of confusion or a temperature

Mastering the clean and jerk - you do all the cleaning others only criticise ....now you feel like a jerk.

Mastering backstroke - that thing you do when you massage in cream after the morning wash

Mastering breaststroke - that thing you don't do when you massage in cream after the morning wash - if they want that they can do it for themselves

Decathlon - regular event when you are managing 10 things at once in order to get one thing done!

Boxing that workout you have when you move every box in the cupboard to try and get more boxes of depends into a space clearly not big enough to hold them

Sprinting ...the dash you make when you hear a sudden crash and know something dreadful has just happened

To be honest, I used to clean for a living and just the cleaning itself can be a real workout, no need to throw in some fancy moves. I do agree with cranking up the tunes though, a little music can always make a chore more pleasant!

Thanks for the tip on "Walk with Ease". My father's biggest problem is his ability to stand and walk. It's getting harder and harder for him and the doctor hasn't come up with any solutions other than injections and drugs. He's not in pain as much as hasn't the strength. Did PT and he doesn't want to do it anymore.
